Mobile World Congress, Barcelona – Day 2

February 14th, 2008 No comments

Day 2 kicked off bright and early with breakfast at 7.30, with an 8.00am coach pickup to take us back into the City. Traffic was very heavy, and it took us longer than expected to get to WMC.

On arrival we had to go pick up our Nokia Exhibition Passes. As you can imagine there were a few other people trying to do the same.

When we finally get our passes we made our way over to the Nokia Hospitality Suite (our base during our time at WMC) to watch a live webcast of the Keynote Speech.

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona – Day 1

February 14th, 2008 2 comments

I am now back in the UK again after spending a few days at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Unfortunately due to some very ropey WiFi at both the event and the hotel, I wasn’t able to bring you guys live coverage as I’d initially hoped. I have quite a bit of work to catch up on (sorting photos & videos etc) so all being well, I’ll have more detailed coverage in the next day or so. For the time here’s a bit about my trip to Barcelona.

February 6th, 2008 1 comment

I am really excited to say that iGadget Life will be flying out to be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week.

Mobile World Congress - Barcelona 2008

For those of you who don’t know the Mobile World Congress (formerly 3GSM) is the worlds largest mobile exhibition which runs from the 11th-14th February in Barcelona, Spain.

The Mobile World Congress features the very latest in technology, services, and developments, bringing to life the promise of mobile broadband for all and defining the industry’s path to continued growth. The Congress brings together the eminent leaders and personalities from mobile operators and equipment vendors, as well as those from the Internet and the world of entertainment.

Hopefully I’ll be able to post live from the floor of this amazing mobile event and bring you details of all the latest announcements and mobile news.

For those of you who Jaiku, I have set-up a MWC Group (see right panel for live feed) for anybody who wants to join in the conversation.

If you are going to be at MWC, drop me a line to let me know..

Watch this space for more details, and live coverage from 11th Feb of the world’s largest phone show!

I’d like to thank the guys from WOMWorld for making this trip possible.

1/4 Million Views

February 6th, 2008 2 comments

Since the launch of the N95 8GB, it would seem that people are still trying to figure out if it is worth getting over it’s elder brother (the original silver N95) as I was pleased to see today that my recent N95 / N95 8GB Video Comparison has just hit over 1/4 million views on YouTube and is the 9th most popular video of all time in the Science & Technology section!

Apple iMac

November 15th, 2007 3 comments

Friday 26th October was a special day for two reasons, firstly it was the day that Apple launched it’s new OS – Leopard and more importantly for me it was also the day that I ordered myself a shiny new iMac.. Unfortunately I had to wait over two weeks for it to arrive on my doorstep. Why it takes so long, who only knows.. it was dispatched on 31st! Like they say good things come to those who wait (and I hate waiting!) and man was it worth the wait.. the little beauty arrived safely on Monday.

Apple iMac

Apple just have the art of presentation down to a tee, from the stylized box, to the inner packaging it just all made me go ‘wow’.. It’s just the attention to detail, the little touches like the lint-free cloth for example (for cleaning the screen) that was carefully folded and packaged, but came with discreet apple logo on it. Nice.

The iMac itself is really a sight to behold.. Man do they know how to make good kit. Lifting the 20 inch iMac out of its box, you can’t help but notice the quality of the build, it felt so sold and sturdy with its aluminum finish. Oh it’s sexy! I have to say that I really didn’t like the previous white iMac at all.. It just seemed way to big and bulky for my liking! This on the other hand is slim, sleek and sexy.

The new apple keyboard is something that I really had my doubts about.. Having seen one online – I really wasn’t that taken with it to be honest.. It is just wafer thin and the keys, what happened to them? OMG, how can my first impressions be so wrong, I have been using the new keyboard for a couple of days now, and have been so impressed with it. The keyboard just feels so much nicer to type with. As its more flush with the desk, you dont have to raise your fingers so high to reach the correct keys – it really does enable you to write better. This has got to be a winner with people that suffer from RSI as it gives such a better ergonomic position for your hands.. I really do love this new keyboard.. Kinda makes me want to have one for my PC at work!

One thing that you can’t help but notice about the new iMac is the lovely glossy new screen – it really is stunning especially when you are watching a Hi-Def movie trailer.. This Mac is really starting to blur the boundaries between computer and TV.

What with all this and Leopard, it really is one cracking bit of kit..

New: Google Fashion

August 4th, 2007 2 comments

It would seem that Google have decided to make a dramatic move away from the internet and search to open a fashion shop as you can see from the photo below:

Google Fashion

OK, so the shop may be real, but I have a sneaky suspicion that this particular outlet selling knock-off branded clothes doesn’t really belong to Google.

I took the picture while I was holidaying in Turkey during a day-trip to Marmaris. Whilst out and about walking in one the the many markets I happened across this particular shop, and just had to take a pic.

I wonder what the Google Lawyers will make of this?

I’m Back!

August 3rd, 2007 No comments

Hi Guys,

Sorry it’s been a little bit quite recently, I escaped the miserable British weather for the hotter climes of Turkey for 2 weeks.  The day after my arrival back, I was invaded by family, so have not had time to catch up with by blogging for 3 weeks…

What have I missed anything exciting?

New Name, New Look

June 20th, 2007 7 comments

As you may have noticed the site has a brand new name iGadget Life! and for those of you reading via RSS it also has a bit of a new look too..

blog.nechbi.com was started way back in February 2004 as somewhere I’d share my passions for all things gadgetty. Recently though things have gotten a bit too focused on one topic – My Nokia N95!

Why the name change? Well, nobody really understands the name nechbi (which is a combination of the first 2 letters of my first, middle and surname) – and it didn’t really relate to the content of the site. So I decided that a name change and proper content theme for the site was long over due.

One of the things that I love about mobiles and a lot of the new technology currently out there is being able to connect to other people wirelessly and how these gadgets are becoming more and more part of our everyday ‘connected’ lives. From taking pictures on your mobile and uploading them to Flickr, to playing Tetris on your DS with somebody the other side of the planet – I just think its amazing!

The new name focuses on my passion – gadgets with the ‘i’ representing internet or interaction and how they are transforming our Lifes.

With the new name, I’ve also added some structure to the site, with some sections at the top, enabling you to get to the content that matters; quicker.

Hope you like it, Let me know what you think of the changes..
