Elton John plays Taunton

June 20th, 2006 No comments

Yes you did read the title right – Sir Elton John played at the Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton on Sunday.

Taunton, the sleepy county town of Somerset managed to pull of a major event by having the legend that is Sir Elton John perform at the towns cricket ground. I have to say that I am somewhat amazed that he actually came to such a small town after having seen his name in big lights when I was in Las Vegas a couple of years ago…. Vegas, Taunton… hmmm

I’m by no means an Elton fan – yeah I like some of his older stuff (Rocket Man etc..) and I only really went along for the experience, but I have to say that the evening was a very enjoyable experience, I only hope that this will be the first of many concerts in the town.

Elton is a huge cricket fan and is pals with Ian Botham who was at the gig with fellow cricketer Andy Caddick.

March 1st, 2006 No comments

Launching on 22nd March 2006 Schmap is a easy to use piece of freeware packed with features and functions that bring city guides to life!

With integrated maps, photos, reviews and online content Schmap gives you complete freedom to explore places of interest within your favourite city.

There will be 30 US City Guides and 30 European City Guide available when the site is officially launched.

The images used within Schmap are taken from Flickr. Some of my pictures from my trip to the USA in 2004 have been selected from my Flickr Account as I found out from an email from Schmap this morning. Looks like I am not the only one.

To run Schmap you need to have a Windows PC and download the free Schmap Player. Currently not available to the public, but if you are one of the lucky ones to get your photos selected you get to see a preview of a San Francisco Schmap!

Looks interesting.. watch this space..

Happy New Year!

January 9th, 2006 No comments

Well here we are in 2006! Another Christmas done and dusted! Did you all have a good one? I do find it all such an anti-climax – 2 months of retail build up for you to spend a shed-load of cash and then they reduce everything afterwards! I wouldn’t say that I deeply religious, but I’m sure that the traditional values of Christmas seem to be missing.. Perhaps its just me getting old and cynical!

Anyways, again I have been pretty quiet on the whole posting front – no particular reason, laziness one of them I guess ;-) Hopefully all that will change, I’m gonna make a determined effort to get more serious about this site.

I could do with some bright ideas, something that will also make me a bit of pocket money, like the guy who came up wtih The Million Dollar Homepage – so simple, yet it worked!

Happy New Year!

Snow!

November 25th, 2005 No comments

When I heard that the weather forecast was going to be snow today, I thought ‘yeah yeah a couple of flakes and that will be it’ – How surprised was I to see that not only was there a large blanket of snow covering everything, but big fat flakes were still falling at 8.00 this morning!

I couldn’t miss this opportunity and quickly got up and headed outside with Harvey for a walk in the snow..

Shame that I had to go to work afterwards….

Bye Bye Ants..

November 4th, 2005 No comments

For those of you who may remember, way back in February I talked about the modern-day ant farm called the Antquarium and then subsequently went on to purchase one and posted about it in The Ants have moved in!.

Well it is now some 9 months later, and am sad to say that the numbers have dwindled quite considerably from some 30+ ants to about 3. I must say that it was great fun to watch the ants tunnel their way around the blue glue that not only became their home, but also their source of food.. Now it is looking more like a tomb – How ironic that these tunnels should now be their grave… With a life expectancy of only 6 months, they did pretty well, I only hope they enjoyed their time in their little perspex box.

RIP.

Site Stats

November 1st, 2005 No comments

I have just been looking at the stats for blog.nechbi.com and comparing this year against last. It would appear that traffic is on the increase – although there is a blip for the last couple of months due to lack of regular posting on my part.

stats2004.jpg stats2005.jpg

The reason for this analysis? well I guess I have come to one of those times when you ask yourself why am I doing this? and does anybody really read it? I think that I seem to have lost my motivation, as I don’t feel that I am providing anything that other gadget blogs haven’t already covered – I also don’t see the need to republish what a dozen other sites cover daily.

I can only put it down to the start of the long dark nights of winter.. Roll on summer!

A 3G Internet Camera

September 29th, 2005 No comments

DLink the people that bring you HarveyCam have announced a 3G version of its Internet Camera.

Basically I believe that the camera is pretty much identical to my DCS-5300w, but means that you are able to stream live video over any 3G handset that can play 3GPP media. Basically this also means QuickTime & RealPlayer.

This is great news for people that want a new camera, but this is functionality that I have been after for some time, as currently, you can only watch streaming video on a Windows PC using Microsoft Internet Explorer. No good for me on my Mac.

Maybe they might release a Firmware update to make older machines compatable. Maybe I have more chance of winning the lottery!
