Now that I have my Internet Camera up and running properly with it publishing stills to my website, I am now able to keep a remote eye on my little hound without having to use the full functionality of the streaming web application.
While I was out last night, I hit on the (obvious) idea of using my Orange C500 to view the camera stills. With a few quick taps, I was connected via GPRS to this very site, and to the Harvey-cam.
Although the video is not streaming, and I am unable to pan/tilt the camera via this method, it is still very handy to have. To reduce overheads I have now created another page on my site that just has the image on it, so with the HTML and the image itself, the download will never be more than 10k – so I’m not going to be running up huge GPRS data charges!
This is what technology is all about!
What a nightmare it has been trying to set-up my C500 to Activesync over Bluetooth. I have had my phone a week, and have only just now got the darn thing working!
I was able to pair the device quite easily – but do you think I could get it to sync? No, I tried all sorts, adding & deleting ports, re-pairing etc without much success. Following instructions found on the MoDaCo Smartphone Forums it would seem that I was not alone in my frustrations..
On numerous occasions I’d follow peoples advice, but then get so wound up by it not working, I’d just had to walk away..
Again tonight, I was just about to give up when I looked at the very helpful Geekzone. I found some instructions to set-up Bluetooth on the i-mate Smartphone2. This time instead of pairing from the PC, It was all done from the handset. On the last step clicking Sync – IT WORKED!! I don’t understand it, but it works – finally!
I need to get myself a Bluetooth headset, I just hope that isn’t going to be as troublesome.

I have had my Orange SPV C500 for 3 days now and can honestly say that I am very pleased with my rather rash decision to have one! It is just so much faster and responsive than my previous SPV e100. This is how Smartphones should be!
The image quality of the camera pictures is great – OK they are not in the league of a proper digital camera – but then they are not meant to be! As you will probably already have noticed there is a link to my new Textamerica site on the right, where I shall be uploading all my C500 images.
I did install the MS Smartphone specific Moblogging utility Atomic Lava – but have not been getting on with that very well. I love concept, but it is only in beta, and is far from a complete product. I hope that the guys behind this sort out the bugs and polish up the whole experience as this is really could be big!
I popped into town lunchtime today and thought that I’d just nip into my local Orange Shop to take a look at this much talked about Orange SPV C500. There was the dummy handset on its display shelf just begging to be looked at. A couple of moments later a very helpful Orange Advisor came along, I asked if I could try one, and with that he took one out of his pocket.
My first impressions – I was pleasantly surprised, the joystick was much different than I had expected, but it ‘felt right’, good move Orange I like it. It was blindingly fast compared to my SPV E100. The one thing that I wanted to see was what the picture quality/capture was like. Again this seemed very impressive – a HUGE improvement on the plug-in camera of my E100.
After only a couple of minutes playing – I succumbed! As my contract had just come to an end last week, it seemed like the ideal opportunity to upgrade to this rather sexy little phone (well it is FREE after all!). I must admit that I kinda had my heart set on the Motorola MPx200, but this small candy bar phone was everything that I have wanted in an MS Smartphone – small, compact, good picture quality, responsive and Bluetooth.
CONGRATULATIONS ORANGE – it’s a superb device!
If you don’t already have one or are thinking about getting an MS Smartphone – GO CHECK OUT THE C500 TODAY! You will fall in love with it.
Go check out the review on CoolSmartPhone if you really need more persuading.

The day that you have all been waiting for – the Orange SPV C500 is now available in your local Orange Shop!
Handsets appear to be flying out the doors quick, so get down there if you want one! I myself cannot decide whether to go for the C500 or wait until the Motorola MPx220 comes along. Reports so far have been in favour of the C500 – I think that I might just wait that little bit longer and see if the bugs of the MPx220 have been ironed out. I’m still gonna pop along to my local store for a demo of the C500 though just to see how small it actually is…

The much awaited Orange C500 is now Coming Soon on the Orange Website.
Rumors that the handsets were due on the 8th August failed to hold true. There is now speculation that handsets will be available in shops from Wednesday 18th. For some I’m sure that it can’t come soon enough.

The smallest MS Smartphone in the world, the SPV C500 is due for release here in the UK from 8th August.
Fonetasticmobile in conjunction with CoolSmartphone are taking PRE-ORDERS of this much anticipated mobile.
All handsets are FREE when you sign up for a 12-month contract.
Now do I resist temptation and wait for the MPx220 to surface? Oh that’s a tough one..

The US Federal Communications Commission have been testing out the much anticipated SPV C500 & MPx220 mobile phones. All devices need to be tested by the FCC before they are released onto the US market.
You will find links to images and handset documentation.
This of course means that we are all one step nearer to owning one of these great phones!
The rumours of the Orange SPV C500 have been met with an official announcement from Orange.
Looks good, although it doesn’t have the same ‘wow factor’ as the new Motorola Mobiles on the horizon!
